The expanded partnership treaty between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran, signed on January 17, 2025, is officially in force as of October 2. The Russian Foreign Ministry announcement noted that “this marks a major stage in the history of interstate relations between Russia and Iran, which have entered a fundamentally new stage of comprehensive strategic partnership. The document sets out key long-term reference points in all priority spheres of bilateral long-term cooperation. It stipulates tighter interaction on the international stage in conditions of the emerging multipolar world, including close coordination within the leading multilateral associations, joint efforts to strengthen stability and security in the region, as well as countering common threats and challenges.”
Lest the point be missed by Israeli, British or American hotheads itching to attack Iran again, the announcement further states: “The Treaty is evidence of the strategic choice made by the political leadership of Russia and Iran in favor of further strengthening our friendly and good-neighborly relations, which meets the fundamental interest of our two nations.”
