Lack of Skilled Workers Makes It Difficult To Retool Economy, Ford CEO Says

In all the hype coming from the Trump Administration about bringing jobs back to America, a major bottleneck for any new investment is the lack of skilled workers. This was again attested by Ford CEO Jim Farley, speaking at Ford’s job summit in Detroit on Sept. 30. This also will affect the plans to build AI data centers and operating centers, he indicated.

Farley noted that AI could eliminate half of white-collar jobs while creating a huge demand for skilled trades. But the work force that is needed to do this just doesn’t exist. In June, Farley posted that the U.S. currently has a shortage of 600,000 factory workers and 500,000 construction workers, and will need 400,000 auto technicians within the next three years.
