Poland’s Russophobic Prime Minister Donald Tusk blamed Germany for allowing the Nord Stream pipeline to be built under the Baltic from St. Petersburg, Russia to Germany. He was apparently only trying to deny Germany’s request for the extradition of a suspect in the Sept. 26, 2022 bombing of the pipeline. So, at a press conference on Oct. 7, arguing that it was not in Poland’s interest to cooperate with Germany, he stated: “The problem of Europe, the problem of Ukraine, the problem of Lithuania and Poland, is not that Nord Stream 2 was blown up, but that it was built.” Hence: “It is certainly not in the interest of Poland ... to hand over this citizen to a foreign country.” Those who decided to build the pipeline should be ashamed and now should be silent, he said.
Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto picked up on the dirty prejudice in Tusk’s logic and called him out on Oct. 8: “According to @donaldtusk, blowing up a gas pipeline is acceptable. That’s shocking as it makes you wonder what else could be blown up and still be considered forgivable or even praiseworthy. One thing is clear: we don’t want a Europe where prime ministers defend terrorists.”
