Russia’s Foreign Ministry has published a report titled, “Regarding the Actions (or Inaction) of the Authorities of Italy, the Federal Republic of Germany and Japan Resulting in Destruction and Falsification of History, Justification of Fascism and Its Accomplices,” Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reported in her Oct. 2 weekly press briefing.
She acknowledged this will be explosive: “I can fancy the effect that the report is likely to produce. But they should learn the truth. It will be better for their citizens to understand who rules them and how, and what ideology is being fed to them, than to live in absolute ignorance. Those who lived in the 1930s-1940s paid a heavy price after they fell victim to Nazi and fascist propaganda. We do not want their remote relatives in the 21st century to suffer the same destiny…. In effect, we are presenting this report for their own convenience, for them to look into it as if it were a mirror.”
The report shows “in detail how the patterns developed by Nazi Germany, Fascist Italy and militarist Japan are finding application in our day and age, how these formerly principal Axis countries gloss over the unseemly facts of their historical past, and how they tarnish the Soviet Union’s role in winning the Victory, including by preventing May 9 celebrations in their territory. These are shameful facts of their biography.”
