In a hugely optimistic message from founder of Africa4Nuclear Princy Mthombeni, South Africa’s voice for nuclear power and a world voice for nuclear energy development, on Oct. 19 she issued an announcement as a result of the South African government’s modification of its Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2025, which limited development of nuclear energy in the country:
“Dear World,
“The wait is over, South Africa just dropped the IRP 2025 and guess what? Nuclear is officially in the mix!
“Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa just announced that government will lead the nuclear build, with plans for 10,000 MW of nuclear capacity. Finally, a bold, practical energy vision that says, ‘We mean business.'
“To all our nuclear professionals in the diaspora, start packing your bags, your country is calling you home.
