In a Sept. 26 article titled “Trump’s Contradictions Are Crippling NATO To Annihilate Europe”, the editor of Italian publication Analisi Difesa Gianandrea Gaiani asks “whether Trump is not actually aiming to end the war by hastening the defeat of Ukraine and, with it, the defeat of Europe.”
“Trump is negotiating with the Russians to extend the New START nuclear arms treaty and ban the development of biological weapons, a move Peskov called ‘a brilliant idea.’ Negotiations are underway to allow American oil companies to resume exploitation of Siberian oil fields (while Trump is demanding that Europeans renounce Russian energy), and the space cooperation agreement has already been renewed.
“This means that the restoration of relations with Moscow will continue, and that Trump is shifting the burden of the war in Ukraine onto the Europeans (NATO). The United States, having failed to achieve peace, is withdrawing from the war, while maintaining its high-cost military supply business. …
“After all, crippling Europe and eliminating it as an economic and commercial competitor is one of the few goals shared by the Obama, Trump, Biden, and Trump II administrations.
“This goal has now been achieved with the diktats on U.S. energy purchases (for €750 billion), investments in American industry (€600 billion), military spending at 3.5-5% of GDP with massive purchases in the United States, the renunciation of Russian energy, and sanctions on nations that continue to purchase it, which means markets where Europe will burn away any remaining credibility.
“Perhaps no one in history has ever bowed so low to a foreign power without first being heavily defeated militarily. If there are any statesmen left in Europe, it would be worth reflecting on.”
