“The meeting with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine was very interesting, and cordial, but I told him, as I likewise strongly suggested to President Putin, that it is time to stop the killing, and make a DEAL!” U.S.President Donald Trump posted following his two-hour meeting at the White House with acting President of Ukraine Zelenskyy.
Trump proposed expanding his planned meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Budapest, by holding separate meetings there with Putin and Zelenskyy. Trump explained his reasoning for proposing a “double meeting”: “These two leaders do not like each other, and we want to make it comfortable for everybody.”
As expected, Zelenskyy requested Tomahawk missiles capable of striking deep into Russia. Trump did not commit to sending the weapons, remarking that the U.S. needs them. Trump said he would prefer to end the war rather than escalating it. He has repeatedly resisted imposing sanctions on Russia and has slow-walked aid to Kiev.
