UN Deputy Middle East Envoy Ramiz Alakbarov told the Security Council on Oct. 23 that the Gaza ceasefire offers a rare chance to end one of the conflict’s most destructive phases, while warning that it remains “extremely fragile.”
Alakbarov praised the truce, reached through President Donald Trump’s 20-point plan, as “a critical breakthrough” mediated by the U.S., Qatar, Egypt, and Türkiye. The UN envoy urged rapid humanitarian aid and reconstruction support to prevent a relapse into violence.
He reported a 46% rise in aid deliveries during the first week of the UN’s new 60-day relief plan but said access is still limited. Violence and border restrictions endanger supply.
