Two West Virginia National Guard Members Shot Near White House

At about 2:15 p.m. on Nov. 26 two soldiers from the West Virginia National Guard were shot roughly two blocks from the White House in Washington, D.C. Both soldiers are in critical condition at nearby hospitals. The suspect also suffered a gunshot wound, was quickly apprehended by local police, and is at a separate hospital. According to local police it was a “targeted” attack, and a lone gunman “ambushed” the two soldiers. The shooting took place at the intersection of 17th & I Street outside the Farragut West Metro Station.

FBI Director Kash Patel said at a press conference that the incident will be treated as an assault on a federal law enforcement officer, and that the FBI will lead the investigation, along with the DEA, AFT, Secret Service, and the DHS. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth told reporters that President Donald Trump requested a deployment of 500 additional National Guard troops to Washington after news of the shooting.
