This is being signalled in the messages of many Republican members of Congress who appear to be ready to follow Marjorie Taylor Greene out of Congress. London’s The Independent reported the remarks of one senior Congressman who predicted that “low morale” would lead to “more explosive early resignations.” There is dissatisfaction with how the White House is treating members and the fact that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) does nothing about it.
The vitriol Trump displayed today toward Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) in a posting on Truth Social exemplifies the President’s tone-deaf and insulting behavior toward members of both chambers that has lost him their respect. He lashed out at Paul, who has criticized his regime-change offensive against Venezuela, and labels Massie a “sick Wacko” who refuses “to vote for our great Republican Party.” Massie had lobbied for the release of the Epstein files.
According to Newsweek, Greene isn’t ruling out the possibility of more early resignations. In a Nov. 24 posting to X, responding to a report in Punchbowl News, she indicated that a few other GOP members are considering retiring in the middle of the term. “Myself and many of my colleagues came courageously roaring into 2025 with legislation that matched the 2024 electoral mandate only to be totally sidelined by [Speaker Mike] Johnson under full obedience of the WH,” referring to the White House.
