China has a “New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor” which moves freight from inland China to ports around the world. Xinhua this week covers a report on this network by the Chongqing government, giving the dimensions of the remarkable increase in freight volume in recent times. Chongqing, although far inland, is the largest city in China.
It is reported that the trade over the corridor “surged 4.5-fold year-on-year to more than 15 billion yuan ($2.11 billion) in the first 10 months of the year, highlighting a major boost in efficiency.” The cargo service has 12 main transport routes, establishing comprehensive coverage of the Indochina Peninsula and expanding into Central and South Asia. It has formed an extensive network using 25 border ports, with 39 overseas distribution warehouses, Xinhua reported.
