After 55 years, the last car rolled off the assembly line at Ford in Saarlouis this Friday, Nov. 14, the last of 15.6 million cars produced there since 1970. Some 2,700 people were still employed at the Saarlouis plant at the end. For 1,000 employees, work will continue at the plant: they will build components and spare parts for Ford in Europe. The decision to stop car production in Saarlouis was made three years ago, when Ford began to invest in e-cars while phasing out the production of combustion engine cars like those in Saarlouis.
