German Green Party leader Franziska Brantner has proposed setting up a volunteer registry, in which older people could register their skills, thus helping in a State of Emergency (Spannungsfall), Brantner told Funke newspapers Nov. 19. “We should set up a volunteer registry at an early stage. We can then fall back on it in an emergency,” she said. If a state of emergency were to arise, the German Armed Forces would, of course, need to know which younger people are capable of performing military service, said Brantner. “But we will also need people who can program and control drones, who understand logistics, who can cook food for more than 1,000 people,” she emphasized.
