After the Norbert Bolz case, the denunciation portal of the Hessen Interior Ministry is now coming under criticism, not only from the AfD but also from the Free Democratic Party (FDP). Both parties demand that the portal be shut down. {EIR) has already compared the “Hessen Gegen Hass” portal to the denunciation system of the old oligarchical Republic of Venice.
Hessen Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) has admitted that in the Bolz case, the prosecutors in Berlin went too far and no search warrant was justified, but has defended the system, while announcing a review of its functions. However, it looks like this is going to affect the territorial jurisdiction and not the substance. In an interview with Osthessen News, Poseck said that the portal has received too many denunciations from residents of other Federal states, which in the meantime have introduced their own portals. Therefore only denunciations coming from Hessen will be accepted.
Denunciations of so-called “hate speech,” antisemitic or “pro-Nazi” postings in social media are processed and eventually go to the BKA Federal police, which decides whether to report to prosecutors. The case of former Economy Minister Robert Habeck, who sued a user who had called him a “schwachkopf” (“idiot”) and was denounced through the Hessen Gegen Hass office, made headlines in fall 2024.
