India Opens Two Consulates in Russia, While Russian President Plans for His State Visit to India in Early December

Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar inaugurated two new consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg, Russia on Nov. 19. The consulate openings take place as both nations prepare for Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to India, reportedly around Dec. 4-5, for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit. During this time, Putin will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

On Nov.18, President Putin met in Moscow with Indian Foreign Minister Jaishankar, to prepare for the visit, while in India, Modi met with Nikolai Patrushev, Putin’s Presidential aide and Chairman of the Maritime Board of Russia. Maritime is a subject for the India-Russia annual summit.
