The U.K. is dragging out the conflict in Ukraine, as it still maintains a commitment to achieving Russia’s defeat, Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom Andrey Kelin said on Nov. 21 in a conversation with TASS.
“The policy of defeating our country remains in force. ... The prolongation of the Ukrainian conflict meets these goals, which is being pursued here [in the U.K.] they are betting,” Kelin said, adding that this is not only about financial investments, where London is not a leader in Europe, but above all about information and propaganda and political and diplomatic efforts. The ambassador noted that the British military and political class have seriously invested in supporting Kiev.
Kelin also lashed out against London for refraining from commenting on the data provided by the Russian Federal Security Service regarding the thwarted operation by British and Ukrainian intelligence to hijack a Russian MiG-31 fighter jet due to the sensitivity of the topic for them. “This is a very serious, and far from the first, case of British intelligence agencies intervening on Ukraine’s side. I have not heard any official comments on this matter. London diligently avoids such painful topics,” he told TASS. “The media provided rather limited coverage of the incident, presenting it in the usual manner as a fabrication by the Russian side.”
