New Kuomintang Chairperson Pledges Strengthened Ties to Mainland

Cheng Li-wun, the new chairwoman of the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party of Taiwan, founded by Sun Yat Sen, took office during the party’s congress held in Taipei on Nov. 1, saying the party is confident in demonstrating unprecedented unity and committed to reviving Taiwan’s economic miracle, and to usher in a century of cross-Straits peace, local media reported according to Global Times.

Cheng spoke of her mission to “set things right,” the Global Times reports, to “usher in a century of cross-Straits peace.”
