Putin and El Sisi Oversee Progress on El Dabaa NPP To Unveil NPP

On Nov. 19 , Russian President Vladimir Putin took part via video, together with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in a ceremony to oversee the installation of the reactor vessel of the first power generating unit of the El Dabaa nuclear power plant (NPP) in northern Egypt.

Russian state nuclear engineering corporation Rosatom is building the NPP, which will host four VVER-1200 reactors, each with a capacity of 1.2 gigawatts.

Putin said at the event: “It is gratifying that our bilateral cooperation continues to develop consistently. Our trade is growing steadily. It increased by slightly more than one third last year. Our industrial cooperation is growing stronger. We are working to create a Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal area.”

Putin pointed to the Russian-Egyptian projects, dating back to time of the Soviet Union, saying: “Many of these joint projects, such as the Aswan Dam, the Helwan Iron and Steel Complex, and the Nag Hammadi Aluminium Plant, have become enduring symbols of our friendship and have brought, and continue to bring, tangible benefits to the Egyptian people.”
