Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov in a Nov. 29 interview with Russia’s TVC television channel charged that London and Europe continue to sabotage sincere efforts to negotiate a peace between the United States and Russia. “I am sure that a refusal to continue normal diplomatic work was literally imposed [on Ukraine] by European curators,” Ryabkov said, reported TASS. “Let’s go to the year of 2022, and recall how close we came to reaching agreements within the framework of direct negotiations with Ukraine,” he continued. “Once again, we saw how the malicious machinations of Western capitals, among which London especially distinguished itself, prevented reaching a settlement at that stage. Now history is repeating itself.”
In further comments Ryabkov added: “We proceed from the fact that the U.S. administration pursues a common-sense approach under present-day conditions and perceives the situation [around Ukraine] more adequately compared to their European allies. Therefore, we are maintaining a dialogue with them [the United States].”
