The Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced Nov. 13 that the U.S. State Department has given the green light for its requested $330 million for the sale of military equipment to Taiwan, and it has so notified Congress. Taiwan is seeking to purchase “components, spare parts and accessories for F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter jets, C-130 Hercules transport planes and aircraft made in Taiwan,” and has also “requested U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical, and logistics support,” the DSCA specified.
This is the first arms sale approved for Taiwan during U.S. President Donald Trump’s second term, Stars and Stripes reports. Not that Taiwan had been left bereft by the Biden administration. Stars and Stripes notes that the U.S. had approved $228 million in spare aircraft parts and related equipment for Taiwan in September 2024, on top of the Biden administration’s authorization of more than a half-billion dollars in extra military assistance.
