Trump Increasingly Alienated from His Base, Lashes Out Against Marjorie Taylor Greene

In the wake of the Republican Jewish Coalition retreat held Oct. 31-Nov. 2, where pro-war, AIPAC-owned Congress members decried the “perfidy” of popular talk show hosts Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, and Representatives like Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) who are rejecting the “Netanyahu First” agenda, President Trump lashed out in a frenetic series of posts on Nov. 14-15 against Representative Greene, who has recently been a vocal advocate of releasing the Epstein files.

First elected as a strong MAGA supporter of President Trump in 2020, Greene has not held back over recent months in publicly breaking with her party and the President on issues of genocide in Gaza; potential war against Venezuela; the rising cost of living, including healthcare costs; and the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Greene discussed many of these issues in her appearance on The View on Nov. 11. “I don’t believe in regime change. I don’t believe that we should be engaging in war, period. I’m totally against wars,” she said of the possibility of military action against Venezuela.

Trump filled his Truth Social feed with manic denunciations of Greene. “I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the Great State of Georgia,” he wrote. After listing his fantasized “Record Achievements for Our Country,” the President whined, “all I see ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN! … I understand that wonderful, Conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics and, if the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support. She has gone Far Left, even doing The View, with their Low IQ Republican hating Anchors. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

In a follow-up rant, Trump grouped Greene with other Republicans who have been especially critical of the administration’s war policy: “Just another Fake politician, no different than Rand Paul, Jr. (Thomas Massie), who got caught being a full fledged Republican In Name Only (RINO)! MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”

Greene’s response, posted on her X account, reflects what most Americans, and more in Trump’s own support base, are thinking: “It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level. But really most Americans wish he would fight this hard to help the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream.”

One would think that Trump would not be quite so energetic in digging his own political grave.
