“The Republicans are putting in legislation that is very tough sanctioning, etc., on any country doing business with Russia,” U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on Nov. 16. “I hear they’re doing that, and that’s okay with me.” He said, “They may add Iran to that. I suggested it.”
This may be his strongest Presidential approval yet for Congressional action on severe sanctions, advocated for months by warhawk Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and cohorts, who have draft legislation ready to push. Following Trump’s Nov. 16 comments, Graham posted on X that they now “with Trump’s blessing,” will move ahead. Graham repeated his delusion that if you pressure Putin, he will cave, saying: “This legislation is designed to give President Trump more flexibility and power to push Putin to the peace table by going after both Putin and countries like Iran that support him.”
