Trump's Defends His Relationship with China During CBS Interview

Interviewed Oct. 31 by CBS’s Norah O’Donnell for a special episode of 60 Minutes, President Trump was challenged on “how big of a threat is China?” In response, Trump said: “It’s like everybody else. We’re a threat to them, too. Many of the things that you say, we do to them. Look, this is a very competitive world, especially when it comes to China and the U.S. And— we’re always watching them, and they’re always watching us. In the meantime, I think we get along very well, and I think it’s— I think we can be bigger, better, and stronger by working with them as opposed to just— knocking them out of the economy.”

Trump otherwise emphasized that “it’s better to get along with China than not,” explaining that his idea of getting along is to make good deals with them. “They’ve ripped us so much. … And now it’s the opposite…. But I do think it’s important that China and the U.S. get along, and we get along very well at the top,” Trump said.
