The following is a press release put out by EIR.
On Thursday, November 5, 2025, Ambassador Dmitry Polyanskiy, the Russian Federation's First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York, gave an interview to the weekly online publication, Executive Intelligence Review (EIR). The focus of the interview was the growing danger created by the current leadership of Europe, which "is preparing itself for a war with Russia," according to the Ambassador. EIR’s Editor-in-Chief, Helga Zepp-LaRouche, conducted the interview from Germany.
I Can Reveal to You a Secret
Asked about the extensive action within the Global South to create a new, more equitable global economic system, as typified by the BRICS, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, etc., and moves away from the primacy of the US dollar, Amb. Polyanskiy responded:
I can reveal to you a secret that there is only one country in the world that is causing very big damage to the dollar. This country is the United States, because all the policies of the United States show that the United States wants to use the dollar as a tool, as a weapon. What would you expect from other countries when they understand that investing in the dollar is risky? That the dollar can be used as a punishment if this country doesn’t want to perform independent policy. All these secondary sanctions that the U.S. tries to impose on other countries are also based on the use of the dollar. So of course the natural reaction from many countries from the Global South would be to not be too dependent on the dollar; to put a number of their eggs in another basket, not only in the dollar basket.
A Crusade Against Russian Language, Identity
Asked for his personal reaction to the complete censorship in Germany today—the forced Russophobia concerning the actual views and the proposal for a new peace order that has been put forward by Russia—Amb. Polyanskiy responded, in part:
We are very much saddened by what has happened in Germany and in Europe as such. This is hard to understand from the Russian point of view, because what is being done, especially in the geostrategic sphere in relation to Russia, is very damaging to the current state of affairs in Europe, to the future of Europe, to its geopolitical stance.
I think that all European citizens, including those in Germany first and foremost, have already witnessed the direct consequences of the measures that the EU has been unilaterally introducing against Russia since at least 2022—this crusade against Russian culture, against Russian identity, language; also the decision to get rid of cheap Russian energy sources which were the backbone of economic growth in a lot of European countries—first and foremost Germany.
This will of course have, and is already having, very devastating consequences for the well-being of European and German citizens. This is a clear choice of confrontation, and this is Europe’s choice. We can only deplore it, we can only regret it. But of course, we can’t save Europe from deliberately shooting itself in both feet. This is very bad, but we can only observe it.
It Totally Breaks Our Hearts
When asked about Germany’s currently stated plan for war against Russia—in light of the generous act of the USSR in agreeing to the reunification of Germany, and the prior Russian loss of 27 million citizens in the defense against the German Nazi machine—Amb. Polyanskiy stated the following:
It totally breaks our hearts frankly, because we were very keen on the fact that Germany has changed; that it’s now, not the country where—the German language was very popular in Russia, German business was very welcome. I think Germany was one of the key destinations for Russian citizens when they visited Europe. We thought that we had already turned over this painful page of history, and that there is no need to come back to it. But what we see right now is very sobering and disappointing, because all of sudden this Russophobia, which we thought was already something out of the question—especially in Germany.
Another Military Problem in Europe… or A Bright Future for Coming Generations
When asked about a comparison of President Putin’s vision of a polyphony among nations to Pope Leo XIV’s recent discussion, in his Jubilee Sermon, of 15th-Century Cardinal Nicolai Kusansky’s method of peace, known as "The Coincidence of Opposites," Amb. Polyanskiy replied, in part:
So, there are a lot of factors. I think what renders a bit of optimism is that there is more and more understanding that something went wrong in Europe. There are more and more people in Europe who are asking legitimate questions to their governments, and who reject this absolutely reckless policy that is being conducted by European ruling circles vis á vis Russia, vis á vis Ukraine, vis á vis European security architecture. Those who are really asking for change and demanding this change.
This, for me, is a sign of optimism, and I hope that this mood will prevail and we will be able to agree on a lot of differences that we have and build some common future together. Because I think that Russia and Europe, being neighbors, if we manage to put aside all these divergences that we have, we have very much in common; not only from the point of view of culture, but also economic development. So, hopefully this logic will prevail and we will have an opportunity to preserve a bright future for the upcoming generations, and not another military problem in Europe, which is where we are heading right now.
