In the second day of its two-day military exercises conducted in multiple locations surrounding Taiwan, the People’s Liberation Army launched 27 ground-based rockets from Fujian. Taiwanese military authorities report that 10 landed within Taiwan’s 24-nautical-mile contiguous zone, making this the closest ever Chinese live-fire exercise. All missiles fell within zones designated in advance by the PLA.
As of 3 p.m. local time on Dec. 30, there were 13 PLA naval vessels, 15 coast guard vessels and 71 military aircraft operating around Taiwan.
