The seventh meeting of the BRICS Working Group on Research Infrastructures and Mega-Science Programs took place in Tehran on Dec. 8, with the goal of “advancing mechanisms for defining and funding mega-science projects, and strengthening the role of research infrastructures as drivers of innovation, sustainable development, and scientific diplomacy,” reported the Iran Press News Agency.
Representatives from Russia, India, China, South Africa, Brazil, and Iran were in attendance. The Working Group maintains and develops the digital platform “BRICS Global Research Advanced Infrastructure Network (BRICS GRAIN),” which provides information on more than 30 research infrastructures across BRICS member states in five core strategic fields: energy, nanotechnology, biology, fundamental physics, and astronomy.
In the coming days, the BRICS Working Group will hold sessions with experts, review joint projects, plan for future cooperation, and finalize a cooperation framework. The program also includes visits to Iran’s leading scientific centers. Scientific work will be advanced along with infrastructure projects.
