Danish Government Says U.S. Is a Potential Threat

A 62-page report published on Dec. 10 by the Danish Defense Intelligence Service (DDIS) with the title “Outlook 2025, An Intelligence-Based Evaluation of the Outer Conditions for the Safety of the Kingdom of Denmark,” has provoked many headlines in the United States, saying it names the U.S. as a potential threat against Danish national security. One would imagine that this means that the report discussed the threats from President Donald Trump about the U.S. necessity of taking over Greenland. That is not the case. Instead, it occurs only indirectly in the passage: “Increased superpower competition in the Arctic has significantly heightened international attention on the region. This applies in particular to the U.S.’s growing interest in Greenland and its importance to U.S. national security. At the same time, this attention increases the threat of espionage, including cyber espionage, and attempts to influence all parts of the Kingdom of Denmark.”

Even the Trump administration’s tariff wars are only commented on, saying, “The U.S. uses economic power, including threats of high tariffs, to enforce its will and no longer rules out the use of military force, even against allies.”

The report’s main concern is that the U.S. might try to get out of its security commitments to Europe through NATO and no longer would serve as a pawn of the Western financial empire to be deployed in the service of the unipolar order. It states: “It will increase Russia’s willingness to carry out more powerful military provocations against European NATO countries if the U.S. publicly casts doubt on whether it will respond to a Russian attack on a European NATO country. Russia will be able to carry out such provocations to test whether the U.S. will actually come to Europe’s aid. Furthermore, Russia will likely become more willing to confront European NATO countries if the U.S. increases its focus on the Pacific region and withdraws more of its troops from Europe.”
