The U.S. House of Representatives passed a $901 billion National Defense Authorization Act on Dec. 10 by a vote of 312 to 112. The amount is $6 billion above last year’s record, and includes funding of an expansion of personnel involved in thwarting China’s commercial and technological initiatives. It is expected to pass the Senate, as the House and Senate leaders have already worked out differences in the two versions.
An analysis of the major expenditures and programs will be conducted by EIR later. Meanwhile, some notable items are as follows.
Included in the bill is a 4% pay raise for enlisted troops and $800 million for Ukraine over two years. On the latter, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) commented: “I thought we were getting out of Ukraine. I don’t know why we still need to spend money there.”
