Twenty-four days after the Nov. 30 presidential elections in Honduras, on Dec. 24, right-wing business mogul Nasry Astura of the National Party, whom President Donald Trump had endorsed, was declared the winner with 40.26% of the vote. Close behind him in second place was Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nasrallah, with 39.64%, while Rixi Moncada of the ruling LIBRE party came in a distant third. Today, Secretary of State Marco Rubo, thrilled that another “right-wing” President who is tight with the neo-cons will be taking power in Ibero-America, issued a statement congratulating Astura for his “clear electoral victory” and for advocating “U.S. strategic objectives,” including strengthened bilateral security cooperation. Keep in mind that both Astura and Nasrallah vowed to break with Beijing and restore ties with Taiwan if either of them won.
Congratulations also poured in from some EU governments and several right-wing Ibero-American leaders, including Argentina’s psycho President Javier Milei, who raved that Astura’s win meant the “end of narco-socialism in Honduras.”
