Helga Zepp-LaRouche, in addressing the Schiller Institute International Youth Conference “Young People of the World Unite!” introduced a new generation of leaders this weekend to the unique nature and history of a movement with the actual basis for both wrenching the world away from insanity and for “the possibility to completely change the world to a better system, where every country has the right to develop.” This possibility took concrete form 250 years ago with the Declaration of Independence from colonial repression and enforced backwardness, a deliberation and proclamation not for one part of the world alone.
Over a half-century ago, Lyndon LaRouche and his movement did not flinch in addressing the horrors of fascism, the immense tragedy of the genocide of World War II, nor the inevitable consequence of a system dependent upon chasing cheap labor and debasing sovereign currencies; nor in devoting the time, energy and scientific dedication to fashioning the development programs and projects that would pre-empt such otherwise inevitable tragedies. Zepp-LaRouche made clear that what LaRouche had insisted was real and causal, and to which the world turned a blind eye, was the death of the Bretton Woods system, marked by the move to a floating-exchange system. And that such relentless clear-sightedness over the decades is what provides a new generation around the world a future.
Zepp-LaRouche stated: “What we have been preparing for, since the moment of the forecast of Lyndon LaRouche in 1971, is that we would reach a new danger of fascism, war, and depression, but also the potential of having a new world economic order, which is what we have been working on in terms writing concrete programs for half a century. This moment is now here; and it is here with such an absolute violence, that most people who have not been thinking about the inherent mistakes of the present financial world system are completely taken by surprise. They don’t quite understand how things can fly around the way they do....”
However, “they recognize that the old order—especially the so-called unipolar order which was attempted to be established after the end of the Cold War, is gone; it’s finished. Not only is there a huge rift between the so-called Global West and the Global South, there is now a huge break in the trans-Atlantic relationship. After the Trump administration published the new National Security Strategy, everything is in turmoil. The Europeans are in a complete state of frenzy; people who have been staunch Atlanticists for their whole lives are saying, ‘We can no longer regard the United States as an ally.’”
Concrete programs exist to rebuild Ukraine, Gaza, Sudan, to conquer the world’s deserts, the Arctic, Siberia, etc.—to generate enough solid economic profit that countries can handle a debt reorganization, freeing themselves from the onerous debt bubble, most obvious in the portion hanging over the United States, which zoomed past $37 trillion a while ago. Leaders and populations in the Global South, China, Russia, India, Brazil, etc., have offered the West a future; and when a President Trump stumbles his way away from the brink, a rump faction of Western European leaders pushes the panic button.
Zepp-LaRouche asked: “So why is it that the Western elites are so absolutely incapable of reflecting on the fact that the condition of the world is the result of their own mistakes? … What is hanging over the heads of these people is the fear that they may be called to account for the policies they imposed on the world. This is the only explanation I have come up with for why they continue a policy which has absolutely failed. They insist on continuing with policies which have created the present havoc in the present world situation, because all of their careers, prestige, and privileges are associated with that. That factor of irrationality is definitely part of the world situation.”
It’s a scary truth. Besides mastering the statecraft behind the LaRouche development projects and the basis for a Glass-Steagall type reorganization of world credit, this ugly factor of decades of commitment to a fantasy has created a suicidal faction, which must be demobilized.
An exaggeration? What keeps these fools from waking up is the same thing that drives people to suicide. Their identity has been tightly wound around a horrible fantasy, involving a dog-eat-dog view of human nature and the world, and they would rather go down with the ship, and take everyone else with them, than admit what they have done.
Zepp-LaRouche challenged the potential youth leaders that, in fact, “we are not barbarians. We are not like this NATO image of man. We are the creative species, and we can come up with solutions for every man-made problem. And war is a man-made problem. That’s why I think the need to have a powerful international youth movement is the key to solving the present conjuncture in human history. Only if we have young people on all continents—in Africa, Latin America, Asia, and hopefully then inspiring the youth of the United States and Europe—who will fight for a new economic system, a new world economic order, and an end to war, will this tragedy which is potentially facing humanity possibly be avoided.”
Such a movement will not only inject optimism, as the LaRouche movement has relentlessly done for decades, but is the necessary extra element. As Zepp-LaRouche concluded:
“I think that we are in an absolutely unbelievably potentially powerful moment of history, because it’s not just the youth movement. The majority of countries—the BRICS countries, the SCO, and many other organizations—are right now in the process of fighting for a system in which every country on the planet has the same rights to economic development and prosperity for its citizens. So the big task that remains is to prevent those people who still think in terms of war as a means of conflict resolution—the neo-cons in the United States and the war party in Europe—from succeeding in their aim. For that, we definitely need a lot of young people to make sure to get the message across that the future is yours.
“I’m very optimistic that we have all the means at our disposal to open a new chapter of humanity. We can leave this present period, this era of imperialism and colonialism, behind and move to this face of humanity where countries relate to each other like members of a family; where each one wants the best for the other and vice versa. And that we are turning toward a future of humanity where we will devote our energies, like how to get thermonuclear fusion power, how we can defeat diseases for which no cure has yet been found, how we can travel to the Moon together, how we can create the conditions for space travel among the stars, and have a bright future where the one humanity will become the common identity of us all.”
