The Telegraph Publishes Fantasy ‘Conclusions’ of U.S.-Europe Talks on Ukraine

The Telegraph in London published an article coauthored by correspondent Joe Barnes in Brussels, who reports, as if true, a number of claimed serious decisions about how to deal with Ukraine after ending the war. The actual results of the talks have not, in fact, yet been made public—if there even were any conclusions.

The headline begins the fantasy: “Donald Trump’s Offer of Security Guarantees To Uphold a Post-War Peace in Ukraine Will Serve as the Cornerstone of Any Ceasefire.” It then boldly states that “The Telegraph has set out how Washington has promised to deliver these NATO-like assurances.” They then proclaim a set of policies which would, if true, actually be very similar to NATO’s Article 5, pledging mutual support for any NATO member in the case of an attack. The claimed “conclusions” include:

• Rebuild the Ukraine military to 800,000 troops, which The Telegraph notes, is “10 times larger than Britain’s Army.”

• “European governments, which form the ‘Coalition of the Willing,’ will put boots on the ground to help train the next generation of Ukrainian soldiers.”

• “U.S. intelligence will be used to monitor the ceasefire, attributing any flare-ups and running mediation efforts to avoid another full-blown war.”
