U.S. sanctions against Thierry Breton and four other Europeans are little more than symbolic, but are nonetheless highly significant. Breton and the others now have a ban on travelling to the U.S.A., nothing more. Such sanctions are nowhere near as biting as the recently imposed EU sanctions against former Swiss Army Col. Jacques Baud, for example, among others.
However, by targeting Breton, the U.S. administration has targeted a key operative of the EU authoritarian state. Remember, it was Breton who threatened to use the same method as in Romania, should there be an AfD election victory in Germany.
