As of this writing, there are a few details reported regarding the Miami meeting among Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and Kirill Dmitriev, Russian special envoy for economic cooperation with foreign countries, who is also head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. Last night, Dmitriev posted remarks to his X account that the talks have been proceeding “constructively.” Although Ukraine’s acting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is not involved in the two-day talks, he has desperately sought every opportunity to insert himself into the discussion.

As reported by Sputnik Dec. 21, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov told journalist Pavel Zarubin, that Russia intends to adhere to positions discussed at the April 15 meeting in Anchorage, Alaska and in meetings with other U.S. representatives. After Dmitriev has an opportunity to brief President Vladimir Putin on the Miami talks, Ushakov said, Russia will then determine its position on further contacts with the U.S. “He [Dmitriev] will bring some signals that the Americans received from the Europeans and from the Ukrainians. And we will discuss all this here, see what can be accepted, what cannot be categorically accepted,” Ushakov said. Most likely proposals from the Europeans and Ukrainians “will not suit Russia,” he remarked.
