“The decision by the U.S. to impose travel restrictions on European citizens and officials is unacceptable and an attempt to challenge our sovereignty,” announced affronted EU foreign affairs representative Kaja Kallas.
“Stop issuing tourist visas to Russians,” demanded the same Kaja Kallas in August 2022. “Visiting Europe is a privilege, not a human right.… Time to end tourism from Russia now.”
Sounds like she wants to have her cake, and sanction it too.
In her complaint about the U.S. restrictions, EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen huffed that “Freedom of speech is the foundation of our strong and vibrant European democracy.” In case any of her readers were not yet laughing, she added: “We are proud of it. We will protect it.”
