Zimbabwe To Add 400 MW of Coal-Fired Electricity

Zimbabwe, which has considerable coal reserves, will increase its electricity production by 400 MW, by upgrading its Hwange coal-fired power plant. India’s Jindal Steel will carry out a $455 million refurbishment of aging units at the plant. India, along with China, is a leading producer of coal-fired power. A contract for a 15-year concession agreement was signed this month, reports Sputnik Africa.

“The 15-year agreement with Jindal will lead to enhanced power generation, which will add 400 MW to our output within the next 48 months,” said the head of the country’s electricity authority, who added that rehabilitation work is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026.
