Minneapolis Congresswoman Ilhan Omar was sprayed with an unidentified substance during a town hall meeting in Minneapolis on Tuesday, Jan. 27. The assailant, later identified as Anthony Kazmierczak, sat in the front row near the lectern, and as Omar repeated her call for the abolishment of ICE and the resignation of DHS Secretary Noem, he charged the podium and used a syringe to spray Omar with a liquid. Security pulled the man from the room and Omar, uninjured, continued the meeting. Unconfirmed reports from Omar’s office via CNN are that the substance was determined by forensics to be apple cider vinegar. Kazmierczak was arrested and is being charged with third-degree assault.
Members of Congress from both parties have condemned the attack on their colleague, and Omar’s office released a preliminary statement on Tuesday night, which ended, “The Congresswoman is okay. She continued with her town hall because she doesn’t let bullies win.”
