Coalition of the Willing Meets in Paris; U.K. and France Pledge Putting Forces in Ukraine

The leaders of the so-called Coalition of the Willing met in Paris, on Jan. 6, hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron, for the stated purpose of discussing security for Ukraine, for post-ceasefire/peace defense. Some 31 countries were represented, on site or online, with White House envoy Steve Witkoff and Presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner representing the U.S. This evening U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Macron announced at a joint press conference that they have made an agreement to post forces in Ukraine, as part of their guarantee to protect its security. Starmer said that they would make preparations for defense in the event of “an attack by Russia.”

There was reportedly a draft joint statement circulating among all attendees of today’s confab. Elements of it were leaked to The Guardian which reported that, in the event an end to the war is achieved—it would provide crucial security guarantees to Kiev to help deter future Russian aggression.
