A group of Italian and international personalities has launched a petition to the Foreign Affairs Council of the EU to lift sanctions against Swiss Col. Jacques Baud. The petition can be accessed and signed here. It calls to:
1. Immediately delist Mr. Baud and similarly affected citizens;
2. Refrain from using foreign-policy sanctions to regulate lawful internal speech or dissent;
3. Review and reform the sanctions regime to restore its compliance with democratic and legal norms.
Petition co-initiator Giacomo Gabellini interviewed Jacques Baud for his YouTube channel on Jan. 2. Baud said that he had not yet received a formal notification of sanctions from the EU or from the Swiss government. As he learned about sanctions through the media on Dec. 15, 2025, he sought confirmation through the Swiss mission to the EU (he lives in Brussels), but mission head Rita Adam, through her secretary, said she had no time for him. As of Jan. 2, she has not called back, Baud said with an ironic smile.
