Trump Announces One-Week Suspension of Bombing in Ukraine

At the Jan. 29 televised cabinet meeting, U.S. President Donald [Trump reported](https://t.me/skabeeva/40135 https://t.me/skabeeva/40135): “I personally asked President Putin not to fire into Kiev and the various towns for a week, and he agreed to do that. And I have to tell you, it was very nice. A lot of people said, ‘Don’t waste the call. You’re not going to get that.’ And he did it. And we’re very happy that they did it…. I just thought I should say, I thought it was a very good thing.”

Trump’s Special Envoy for the negotiations with Russia, Steve Witkoff, responded: “I think it shows, Mr. President, your key influence on these negotiations. The Ukrainians didn’t believe this was possible. The Russians are doing things they probably wouldn’t get credit for. And I think it’s all thanks to your indomitable spirit.” Trump said: “Well, it was a good thing.”
