Over 3.5 million visitors went to China’s museums of science and technology during this year’s Spring Festival. This attests to the efforts of the Chinese government to encourage scientific development in China as the motive force of the economy. The China Science and Technology in Beijing welcomed more than 200,000 visitors with themed events celebrating the Year of the Horse, while sci-tech museums nationwide tailored their activities to local conditions, launching a variety of science-themed events that blended Chinese zodiac culture, intangible cultural heritage, and cutting-edge technologies.
New science fiction novels have begun to proliferate on the bookshelves of China’s bookstores, many of which have been made into popular films. China’s most renowned science-fiction writer, Liu Cixin, who published his trilogy “The Three Body Problem” and “The Wandering Earth” has seen both of his works transformed into film with sequels. Like the works of Jules Verne and Kurd Lasswitz in their day, which inspired the first space pioneers, the new science fiction is aimed at creating another “spurt” of creativity in scientific development.
