Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parilla was in Beijing on Feb. 4, welcomed by officials of the Chinese Communist Party and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, according to the China Global South Project. Referencing the U.S. Trump administration’s brutal oil embargo against Cuba, which is causing horrific suffering, Wang told the Cuban Foreign Minister that China fully supports the Caribbean nation in safeguarding national sovereignty and security, and “opposes unwarranted interference by external forces.” China is prepared, Wang said, “to continue offering our support and aid within our possibilities.”
Earlier this week, on Feb. 1, Rodrigeuz spoke by phone with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who said that U.S. economic and military pressure on the island was “inadmissible,” and especially condemning the U.S. cutoff of oil shipments to Cuba. Lavrov said, Russia would continue to provide Cuba with political and material support, according to the Foreign Ministry readout.
