The Department of Homeland Security’s top spokesperson, Tricia McLaughlin, resigned on Feb. 17. She was the face of the deportation machine. Her plan had been to leave last December, but after the fatal shootings in January, she decided to stay a bit longer. There are reports of widespread demoralization in the deportation bureaucracy, with the highest suicide rates in law enforcement, alcoholism, drug abuse, etc. It was recently revealed that McLaughlin’s husband’s company won a subcontract on a non-competed $220 million contract from DHS, in a deal described by experts as “corrupt” and “worthy of an investigation.”
