As the U.S. amasses an obscene level of military force in Southwest Asia while trumpeting plans to bombard the nation of Iran into the dust, the nations that live in the region continue to move towards a reconciliation grounded in cooperation and the peaceful development of their region. The latest example is the report from today that Egypt and Iran have agreed to reestablish full diplomatic relations, after 47 years.
As Iranian news service WANA wrote, “in a significant development in Middle Eastern diplomacy, Iran and Egypt have reached a final agreement to fully restore diplomatic relations and reopen their embassies in each other’s capitals—an accord that officials say is now only awaiting a formal public announcement at an agreed `zero hour.’”
Mojtaba Ferdowsipour, the head of the Iranian Interests Section in Egypt, confirmed to Al Jazeera that the decision has been made, “and the political will exists within the leadership of both countries. It is only necessary to agree on a specific time for the announcement, although Egypt and Iran are not in a hurry.”
