Cooperation in joint energy and transportation in the context of deepening regional integration topped the talks between the leaders of Uganda and Tanzania. On February 6, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda made a working one-day visit to Dar es Salaam, where he met with Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on ongoing joint initiatives, including energy, trade, and transportation.
On energy, they discussed completing the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), which will transport Ugandan crude oil through Tanzania and the Indian Ocean, and will begin operations in July 2026.
Commenting on the project, President Samia said, “This is a clear example of what African countries can achieve when they work together with focus and commitment.”
In addition to EACOP, they agreed to advance plans for a cross-border clean gas pipeline linking Uganda and Tanzania, as well as joint electricity generation projects. Tanzania is a gas producer and importer of liquefied natural gas.
