“Operation Metro Surge is ending,” White House Border Czar Tom Homan declared at a Feb. 12 news conference. He claimed great success in the Minneapolis surge, boasting 4,000 arrests since it began on Dec. 1. However, this is the same fictitious figure used weeks ago that has been widely discredited as including people who were arrested long before the surge, and a few who were arrested in 2024—before Trump even entered the White House. This list is not being made public, and instead Homeland Security is publicizing only names of detained individuals with criminal records.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a statement, “Standing with our neighbors is deeply American… and a resolve to endure can outlast occupation.”
