Kazakhstan Developing Nuclear Power with Russia and China

Interfax reported on Feb. 2 that the government of Kazakhstan has decided to construct a second nuclear power plant (NPP), with Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov having signed and published the corresponding resolution on Jan. 26. Astana plans to construct the nuclear plant in the Zhambyl District, Almaty Region.

Kazakhstan intends to construct several NPPs. Russia’s Rosatom state nuclear energy corporation will build the first one. Construction requires approximately 11 years, and they expect to complete construction in 2035-2036.
