Mittelstand Letter Calls Merz Policy a Disaster in Germany

Christoph Ahlhaus, the chairman of the German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (BMBW) and a party colleague of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, sent a letter to the Federal Chancellery on Thursday evening, Feb. 5, warning that small and medium-size business owners doubt that there will be any improvement in the German economy.

Ahlhaus writes in the letter that entrepreneurs in Germany had reacted with great hope to the end of the “traffic light” coalition government. Many had supported Merz in the election campaign and looked optimistically toward the economic turnaround announced by Merz. “Less than nine months after your election as Federal Chancellor, this euphoria has given way to sheer horror at the development of Germany as a business location,” the letter states.
