Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament, on Feb. 5, and emphasized India’s growing role as a voice for the emerging Global South. “India has become the strong voice of the Global South on international platforms and is entering into ‘future-ready trade deals’ with major countries,” Modi said.

He also emphasized that India has a predominantly young population. “While the richest nations of the world are aging, India is simultaneously reaching new heights of development and becoming increasingly youthful, a nation with a growing young population.” According to official statistics cited by RT, India has the largest young population in the world, with nearly 65% of the people under 35.
