White House special envoy Steve Witkoff met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other top Israeli officials yesterday, including Mossad chief David Barnea, Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF chief Eyal Zamir, reported Reuters. Iran was obviously at the top of their agenda where Netanyahu apparently tried to dictate terms for the U.S.-Iran talks set for Friday. He reportedly claimed that Tehran was unlikely to honor any potential agreement (this despite the fact that by all accounts Iran was in full compliance with the 2015 nuclear deal before Donald Trump, at Netanyahu’s urging, himself broke it in 2018. -ed.). Netanyahu “made clear his position that Iran has repeatedly proven that its promises cannot be trusted,” a statement from his office said.
Israeli officials were insisting that the US not budge on four key demands, including that Iran transfer its highly-enriched material to another country, halt nuclear enrichment completely, cease its production of ballistic missiles and stop funding its proxies in the Middle East.
