In his announcement of the joint U.S.-Israeli operation against Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed it was to “remove an existential threat posed” by Iran. “Our joint operation will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their fate into their own hands,” Netanyahu said. “I thank our great friend, President Donald Trump, for his historic leadership.... Our joint action will create the conditions for the brave Iranian people to take their destiny into their own hands.”
In a later statement, Netanyahu claimed that Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei “is no more,” and promised that in the coming days “we will hit thousands of targets of the terror regime.” He also promised that Israel will create the conditions for the Iranian people to “free itself from the chains of dictatorship.”
